Measuring through oil, dirt and pressure with eddy current

The technology that works in exactly the places optical sensors can't reach.

Eddy current sensors induce a field in a conductive target and measure how it loads the coil. Anything non-conductive between sensor and target is invisible to them — including oil, coolant, dirt and most plastics.

Inside the machine

That makes eddy current the only practical choice inside gearboxes, bearing housings and hydraulic cylinders — places where an optical sensor would be blinded within minutes and a contact probe would wear away.

The price is calibration: the reading depends on the target material, so a sensor calibrated on steel won’t read aluminium correctly without recalibration.
